This year’s Solar Home Tour and Solarbration went off without a hitch. Thanks to everyone who helped out, including the homeowners, volunteers, sponsors and everyone who participated!
Clean renewable energy from the sun has never been more affordable or popular. We’re on a roll!
The American Solar Energy Society’s National Solar Tour is the world’s largest grassroots solar event. It offers people from all over the country an opportunity to visit innovative green homes and buildings to see how you can use solar energy, energy efficiency and other sustainable technologies to reduce monthly utility bills and help tackle climate change. More than 160,000 participants will visit some 5,500 buildings in 3,200 communities across the U.S.
For nine years, the Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour has been a great event. Solar NV would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who make them possible, from the owners who opened their homes and shared their stories, to the volunteers who assisted throughout the day and of course, the sponsors who supported the event.
We received a lot of great comments about the tour, confirming the tremendous value it brings to the community:
The best part was being able to see innovation in practice. Each owner had different perspectives and knowledge but they each shared a loving commitment to making a difference. I look forward to our annual solar tour! Spread the word, take your colleagues, friends, family AND more importantly, a “denier,” to this meaningful as well as memorable event. ~ Cherie W.
I like hearing from solar homeowners about their experiences, what works and what they would have done differently. It is a lot of fun and I love meeting new people who are committed to making a difference. The solar home tour is a fantastic experience for anyone interested in sustainable living. ~ Bill R.
I loved being able to talk to owners who created their own environments using available technologies, incentives and rebates. Their experiences were inspiring. ~ Mary Beth H.
I liked seeing the technology in each home and the handouts that the homeowners provided. Having knowledgable Solar NV volunteers at each home was also nice so multiple tours could happen concurrently. ~ Rick V.
If you have previously attended the tour, please take a moment to share your experience using the Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour feedback form. If you would like more information about the tour please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.
This is also a great time to renew your Solar NV membership. The tour is $20 for non members, $15 for those who will be driving hybrids, and $10 for members. Become a new member of SolarNV for only $1 more when you register for the tour!
We invite you to join us for this year’s Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour!

Each year, Solar NV honors an individual or organization in the community who has made significant contributions to a secure energy future through innovations in conservation and/or renewable energy in Nevada.
Through energy conservation, renewable energy procurement, and a commitment to reducing the use of coal as an energy source, NV Energy has established itself as a company focused on sustainability and the future.
Further, SolarNV is proud to announce a $2,500 financial donation to the UNLV Solar Decathlon Team, in support of their mission to design, build, and maintain a sustainable solar powered home. The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 is an international competition with the goal of educating the public about energy-saving residential designs.
The reception will begin promptly at 6:00 P.M. with hors d’oevures and a silent auction followed by dinner at 7:00 P.M.
In addition, the winner of this year’s Solar NV Scholarship recipient will be announced.
Our 2012 winner Kathryn Weavil, a senior at UNLV studying Environmental Science with a minor in Solar and Renewable Energy, was presented with a $2,500 scholarship to help further her studies.
Each year, Solar NV awards a scholarship for the following year to an outstanding University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) undergraduate or graduate student who is pursuing a future in the Solar / Renewable Energy Industry.
Congratulations to Lydia Ball and Kathryn Weavil. Solar NV appreciates your contributions – past, present and future – to improve the lives of the citizens of Nevada and beyond through the use of clean, renewable energy.
The 2012 Crinis Award Banquet and silent auction was a great event enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone who turned out and to those organizations who sponsored the event! We hope to see you at the next one.
