Speakers from Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. will explain how the unvarying temperatures of the ground can be used to increase a buildings’ efficiency. Ground Source Heat Exchange systems are not only feasible in Southern Nevada, they provide cost savings and environmental benefits. Projects that have incorporated GSHE include, 3 of the trade High Schools in the valley, Cashman Equipment, The Henderson Aquatic Center, and the Las Vegas PBS Building. In addition, two schools were recently constructed in Pahrump utilizing GSHE.

Renewable Energy Policy in Nevada

Meeting Topic – Public Utilities Commission of Nevada: Renewable Responsibilities

Presented by: Karen Olesky, Policy Advisor for the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada

The meeting will encompass a brief overview of how the State Legislature creates renewable mandates and goals for the Utilities to implement, which then are monitored and enforced by the PUCN. Specifically I will be discussing the state RPS, the solar carve out of the RPS and then the small scale renewable programs for solar PV. Energy Efficiency is also important to the RPS.

NREL Renewable Energy Study

NREL studyThe National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has just released a seminal study detailing the extent to which renewable energy supply can meet the electricity demands of the continental United States over the next several decades.

The Renewable Electricity Futures Study “explores the implications and challenges of very high renewable electricity generation levels” by 2050, focusing on 80 percent of all U.S. electricity generation from renewable technologies.

Pine Tree Wind Energy Project

Searchlight Wind Energy, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Duke Energy, is proposing to develop a 200-megawatt wind energy generation facility on public land located near Searchlight, Nevada, approximately 60 miles southeast of Las Vegas. The proposed project would include up to 96 wind turbines.
