Solar Home Tour Instructions & Starting Point |

The Orientation Plaza at the Springs Preserve The Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour will begin at the Orientation Plaza at the Springs Preserve (see map below). This central location will open for pre-tour exhibits and networking at 9 AM. Exhibitors in the plaza will provide information on solar energy systems, rebate programs and other renewable energy topics. It is not imperative that you be there at 9 AM since we'll be there until noon for those who want to start a little later in the day. Whenever you get there, we hope you will spend a little time speaking with our exhibitors and networking with others who share similar interests in renewable energy. If you've never experienced the Springs Preserve, you will want to come back to spend a full day (or more) at this remarkable facility. It has many examples of solar energy and green building incorporated into the site. There are acres of beautiful gardens, hiking trails, amazing exhibits and much more. The homes will open at 10 AM for the actual tour. They will remain open until 4 PM. Tour Tip #1: When you receive your tour guidebook at the start of the tour, it will contain maps and directions to each location. This is a self-guided tour and there is no defined sequence that you must follow. You can go to any location on the tour in any order you like. Tour Tip #2: We recommend taking a few minutes to read through the guidebook, check the maps and determine what sites are of most interest to you. A little time spent planning your route in the beginning will make your experience much more enjoyable. For example, you may have limited time or wish to limit your stops to places with specific features that are of interest to you. You might want to limit your tour to certain parts of the valley. In fact, with up to fifteen locations on this year's tour, it will probably not be possible for you to get to them all in one day. Having many locations on the tour helps reduce the number of people at each location at any given time. We wish we could have all tour locations conveniently grouped close to each other to minimize driving time. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to do that. Please understand that it is our goal to provide you with the best experience possible. We do encourage car pooling to maximize the value of your driving and tour expenses. This strategy also helps the driver since other passengers can assist with directions and following the maps. Remember......Safety First! |
