Dear Solar or Green Building Homeowner, Architect, and/or Builder:

Thank you for your interest in submitting a home for consideration as part of the Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour. The tour demonstrates the benefits of green homes including renewable energy, energy and water efficiency, healthy and comfortable indoor environments, innovative materials and techniques, as well as cost effectiveness.

The tour is produced by Solar NV, the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Solar Energy Society (ASES). As a part of the National Solar Tour coordinated by ASES, in which communities all across the country will be participating, this tour is an exciting and valuable community event. Solar NV is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Here's how it works: Selected homes (and perhaps a few businesses) will have descriptions and pictures published in a tour guidebook. On tour day, participants will be given addresses, maps and specific directions to take the self-guided tour, from 10 AM to 4 PM. Homeowners, with assistance from volunteers and/or vendor representatives, will be available to show, demonstrate and explain the features of their homes so tour participants can experience these concepts first hand.

You are invited to present residential nominations for tour locations to the tour organizer at any time. The selection committee, made up of representatives from Solar NV and our program partners, will make the final site selections. Priority will be given to the following criteria:

  • Project follows sustainable design and construction principles.
  • Project illustrates passive and/or active solar design and technology.
  • Project represents new and different alternative building envelopes or appropriate use of traditional building methods.
  • Project illustrates water and/or energy efficiency measures (Xeriscape, appliances, etc.).
  • Project location and accessibility

Using the nomination form, please provide the following information:

  1. Identify site by preferred project name.
  2. Provide architect, builder and owner information, including name, address, phone, fax and e-mail address.
  3. Provide clear, detailed directions to the site (the selection committee will visit all nominated sites that meet the selection criteria).
  4. List the relevant green building features of the site.
  5. In one paragraph, describe why this site should be included on the tour.
  6. A slide or photograph will be helpful, although not required. Digital images can be emailed to solarhometour@solarnv.org.

Anyone may nominate a home for consideration. Typically, only one site from any one builder or architect will be selected, but you may nominate more than one. If you are nominating a home other than your own, please be sure that the owner is aware and interested in participating in the tour.

Every Southern Nevada Solar Home Tour has been a tremendous success and we expect the event to become a local tradition. It promises to gain in professionalism and outreach with each year's added expertise.
